webMethods Upgrade and Migrations

Solis’s webMethods 8.x Upgrade service offering provides your organization with tools and methodology for upgrading existing Integration landscape developed on earlier versions of the webMethods Platform. Each upgrade project will include the following 5 phases as outlined below:

Assessment:

The scope of the upgrade effort for each customer will vary depending on the webMethods products and versions that are being used in their current production environments. In order to estimate the level of upgrade effort and to identify those components that are most suitable for upgrade, an initial discovery phase is required. The Assessment Phase will produce a System Audit of all installed webMethods products, Installation List of webMethods 8 components, and Estimation Guidelines required for the migration. Based on the discovery of webMethods components being used and the level of complexity involved, the Assessment Phase will provide customers with a clear framework for understanding the scope of an upgrade project.

Planning:

The planning phase will determine the best migration path and the effort required for the migration. Various delivery options are also discussed at this time and the final project plan is created. The Solis team is comprised of world-class integration experts who can guide you through the migration process. Solis can provide the integration expertise required for the migration project. In addition to the professional services team, other options that might be presented to the customer are.

Install and Setup:

During the Installation phase the Logical and Physical architecture is re-visited and any topology changes and hardware changes that might be required are recommended. The necessary webMethods 8.x components will then be deployed to the development, test and production environments. During the Install phase, the integrations that need to be migrated will be studied and the Solis team will come up with an architecture and design document that describes the technical details of the upgrade. These documents will detail the design and architecture changes that might be required, such as changes to adapter instances, adapter deployment, broker instances, join and X-ref considerations etc. These documents will be used as input to the next phase of Migration.

Migration and Correction:

During the Migration and Correction phase the upgrade of components identified during the Planning phase will be performed. In this phase, upgrade of web service components can be cited as an example. Although version 8.x is backward compatible with version 6.x, web service exposure styles, the new 8.x style of webMethods implementation and exposure is recommended and will be applied to all previous web services.

Test and Production:

Rigorous testing is done based on unit and integration test plans and the solution is deployed into production after passing all the required quality checks. Solis also provides post production warranty support for about 2 weeks included in this offering.
